Reha's Report

Dear Scott School Families,

Welcome back and to a new year!  I invite you to join our school team to make 2024 an incredible experience for our students.  What is one goal you have in mind (or can make) to extend your amazing learning partnership with your child's teaching team to make for a strong second half to the 2023-24 school year?  We need you and value all that you offer.  Thank you for the support you've given thus far and for your positive contributions moving forward too.  You matter!

NWEA testing is underway and will continue next week.  Acadience testing is also scheduled for next week too.  Reports will be sent home at the end of January or beginning of February.

I hope you and your family can enjoy some outdoor activities in the winter wonderland we've recently encountered.  The weather sure has taken a turn from the mild December we had.  Be safe and stay warm!

In partnership,

Linda Reha

Scott School Principal

Perception Survey

An email was sent to families with a Perception Survey Link on Monday, January 15th.  Your feedback matters to us!  If you haven't already, please consider completing the survey to let us know what you think we're doing well and growth areas that we can continue to focus on for continuous improvement.  Constructive feedback helps us better serve our students and families.  If you've lost the email with the link, don't fret!  A reminder email will be sent to families before the survey window closes.

Winter Weather Wear

It's official - - - winter weather has arrived!  Please help your child be prepared for frigid temps by sending him/her to school with the proper outdoor gear.  Students are expected to wear a coat outside for recess when the temperature falls below fifty degrees.  Below is a list of winter apparel that is also recommended.  Please let your child's teacher or Mrs. Schwarz know if your child is in need of any outdoor wear.  We are happy to help!

Learning is Fun

Students at Scott School have been working hard all week doing the very best they can on the NWEA. Students in Mrs. Toth's class "rested" their brains by playing language arts games to build vocabulary, spelling, and phonemic awareness skills!

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

At DPS, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment is crucial for all students to feel valued and respected. Embracing gender-neutral language in our communications and events is a powerful way to ensure that every individual, regardless of their gender identity, feels seen and included. This is an area that we continue to work on. By acknowledging and accommodating diverse gender expressions, we foster an atmosphere where all students can thrive and feel a sense of belonging. It's an essential step towards creating a more supportive and understanding community for everyone involved.

School Breakfast & Lunch

School breakfast and lunch is available to all students and this year, both are free to all students due to a State initiative

I-CHAT to Volunteer or Chaperone

All volunteers and chaperones must be cleared before an event through our District's I-CHAT background check process every year.  This process takes a few days, so please don't delay in completing it, so your report is processed and returned to the school in a timely fashion.

CLT and Professional Development Calendar

Below are the dates for Collaborative Learning Time (CLT) and professional development this year.  Thank you in advance for supporting these days which allow our teachers to participate in training and be continuous lifelong learners to support student success.

ID Requirement for Students to be Picked Up

Student safety is a priority.  Please bring proper identification each time your child is picked up from school.  Here are some ways adults picking up students can be identified:

Allergy Awareness

There are some Scott students who have health-threatening nut allergies in our building.  Scott School is a 'No Nut' building.  Pack items that do not contain nuts for your child's lunch and snack.  It is critically important that we provide a safe learning environment for all students, and your help with this is needed and appreciated.  Please always contact your child's teacher if you have a concern about an allergy or other health condition related to your child that they should be aware of.  Also, if your child has a medical need, including food or other allergies, don't forget to update your child's Medical Management Plan by completing and submitting the district forms to the office before school starts so we can follow protocols to keep your child safe.

Medical Forms

In order for Scott School personnel to administer medication to your child when we return to in person instruction, you must:

Medication and other medical forms can be found on our DeWitt Public Schools website.
