Reha's Report

Dear Scott School Families,

Governor Whitmer has ordered all schools throughout Michigan to close until April 6th due to COVID-19. Our district will keep families updated on new developments as they arise related to the impacts of this far reaching and highly contagious virus. Please review various resources about COVID-19 on our district webite. We need to count on each other during this difficult time and trust that we are all contributing in ways to stop this epidemic. To the many who have offered to help by donating supplies and volunteering services, thank you! We can never have enough Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer, so if you're willing to send these items in or drop them off in the office when we return to school, that would be of great assistance to our school.

Healthy vibes to all,

Linda Reha

Scott School Principal

Please read these document from the health department regarding precautions that can be taken to prevent contracting the Coronavirus and other communicable illnesses should you or your loved ones be exposed. Also, our DPS website has a lot of valuable information about the Coronavirus too. Please review hygiene reminders with your loved ones including to wash with soap and water frequently, to keep hands away from your face, and to stay home if sick. We have been emphasizing good hygiene habits at school too.

CANCELED - Community Showcase and Art Show

Unfortunately, the 9th Annual Community Showcase on March 25th has been canceled due to the Coronavirus outbreak. This event is one to look forward to next year since it truly is a great night of fun, networking, and learning about all the amazing resources and services our community offers.

Math Launch Tasks

Students at Scott School participate in math launch tasks each unit. Here is Mrs. Zarotney's students making fractions on a number line. Each group was assigned a different task to determine how to divide their number line from whole numbers into fractions equivalent to either 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2.

Absences & Attendance Policy

Per our District Attendance Policy which follows the County Attendance Policy, we are to alert families when a student reaches 10 days, 15 days, and 20+ days of absences throughout the school year. We do this in the form of attendance letters that are sent out on a regular basis. If you receive an attendance letter, there is no need to be alarmed. We understand that attendance is affected by a number of excused reasons such as illness and vacation days. If the school has any concerns with attendance, you will receive a notification through email or a phone call from the building administrator (Linda Reha) and/or the truancy officer (Pat Wilson) with a request to speak further about attendance concerns. If you receive an attendance letter, this is simply for your information only and for your records. If you have any questions about our attendance policies please contact our main office.

NOTE: Absences related to COVID-19 will be considered on an individual basis. It is important to keep your child at home if he/she has symptoms such as a fever (or has had one within 24 hours), is throwing up, has diarrhea, excessive coughing, etc. This is for your child's benefit and for the well-being of members of our school community.

Brrrr....It's Still Chilly Outside

Michigan weather seems to like to trick us. Just when it seems to warm up just to make us think that spring is here, snow flurries remind us that we're not yet out of the winter woods. Our Scott School Handbook indicates that students are to wear a coat outside if the temperature is 50 degrees and cooler. Please help us by sending warm outdoor apparel until it's clear that spring weather is here to stay.

March is Reading Month

CANCELED - Scott School Spring Book Fair Information

Our Spring Book Fair has been canceled for now. However, it may be rescheduled. If it is, communication will be shared with students and families.

ICHAT to Volunteer

We are entering the season of Field Trips here at Scott School. Just a reminder that if you are interested in attending your child's class trip, as well as helping in the classroom, you MUST complete an ICHAT (volunteer background check) first. This background check is only good for one year, so if you completed one last year, you’ll need to complete a new one again this year. Staff and students appreciate all our families do to support learning at Scott!

Substitutes Needed

DeWitt Public Schools is looking for individuals interested substituting in our support staff positions which include lunch room and playground assistants, student aides (paraprofessionals), secretaries, and food service. Times vary for these positions and can range from 1.5-8 hours each day. If you are interested in subbing, please call our DPS Administrative Office at 668-3000.

DPS is also looking for substitute teachers. DPS partners with Ingham ISD and EduStaff to contract with qualified substitute teachers. For additional information about EduStaff and substitute teaching opportunities in DeWitt Public Schools, visit www.edustaff.org to complete an application, or contact the DPS Administrative office at 668-3000 for additional information.

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops for Education is changing to align with today's technology and families. Soon there will be no more clipping and only receipt scanning to support Scott School. It's simply to do, just download a the Box Tops for Education App and scan your grocery receipt. Any items that qualify will automatically credit our Scott School account. This costs nothing, but gives extra funds to our school to purchase resources and support events for students. We are still accepting clipped Box Tops, so if you have any, don't hesitate to send them in to our office.

We are currently looking for a Parent Volunteer to help with Box Tops. If you are interested please email Denise Urbain at urbain@dewittschools.net Thank You
