Reha's Report

Dear Scott School Families,

Third graders put their best foot forward with M-STEP testing this week. Make up testing will occur next week. I'm so proud of all of our students who tackled spring testing these past few weeks. Acadience and NWEA reports will be sent home the week of May 17th, so keep an eye out for them in your child's travel folder.

It seems so good to be back and remain in school for in person instruction. I'm also pleased that DPS has been able to accommodate families who elected to stay online for the remainder of the year. Although we are resuming school activities and events that seem more like normal, our building has decided to bypass Field Day this spring because it takes many volunteers to help with this event and even though we would be outside, guests are still not allowed to work with students to decrease virus exposure opportunities. However, Scott School staff decided to create a May Fun Fridays Calendar with fun end of the year events this year instead, and every Friday morning throughout the month, students will be greeted with kid-friendly music over our PA system. This gave a nice upbeat vibe to the start of our day this Friday as students and staff entered the building in their Beach Day attire. Pandemic guidelines or not, school can always be a place of fun and learning. We sometimes just need to think outside of the box. I learn this daily from the creativity our students, and am amazed by their kind, brilliant, spunky ways. I am the luckiest principal in Mid-Michigan because Scott School has it all.....great students, great families, and great staff. Thanks for helping your child be his/her best self!

Sincerely,

Linda Reha

DPS Student Screener

Families are expected to go through this screener every morning before their child leaves for school when students are in the building for in person instruction. Please remember to do this so we all do our part to support a healthy environment at school. Attached is a printable version of the form that you may elect to print for easy access each morning.

Pick Up Loop Vehicle Student Name Signs

Please be sure to place a large sign in your window or dash with your child's first and last name if you use the pick up loop after school. This helps us say your child's name over our speaker system and be efficient in keeping traffic moving through our loop. Thanks for your help! This is especially important when we return to full in person instruction since there will be many more students waiting at the loop.

Neighbor Niceties - Please don't block driveways, the Parking Lot, & Turn Right

Scott is a neighborhood school, and we have many wonderful neighbors who support our school. However, a concern that has been communicated many times this year is vehicles blocking driveways at the beginning and end of the day when drop off and pick up occurs. There are more students dropped off and picked up than typical this year which creates additional traffic on Wilson Street. Please be respectful of our neighbors by refraining from idling (or parking) your car in front of any driveway while waiting in the parent loop line. Allowing space for driveway access for all property owners is important and helps us maintain positive relations with our friendly neighbors and demonstrates respectful driver etiquette. Also, vehicles cannot stop in the intersection where the stop sign is located south of your building. We are fortunate to have support from our local law enforcement to keep our students, community, and school safe, so please know these traffic violations could result in police issuing tickets. In addition, please follow road rules by parking in legal spots when needing to enter the building. There are an increasing number of drop off and pick up by vehicles not using the loop. This is strongly discouraged. Please follow our driving guidelines so pick up and drop off tunes are safe for everyone by preventing an unfortunate accident from occurring and helping us keep good relations with our neighborhood community members. Vehicles exiting the loop must make a righthand turn only. Lastly, please keep in mind that our staff need to be on time to work to teach and support your child, so please allow staff access to the staff parking lot when they arrive to work each day. Thank you for your attention to these concern areas.

We are pleased to be able to adjust our drop off time to 7:55 a.m. this year to help keep traffic flow moving. Students dropped off in the loop are to walk to the front of the building and social distance in the cafeteria before the first bell rings.

Attendance

If your child is going to be "absent" and miss school, even if they are a online learner, please be sure to call our attendance line at 517-668-3458. We are required to take attendance even when students are learning remotely, so we want to be sure to account for our students and excuse absences in Infinite Campus. If your child is learning remotely, you should also communicate absences to your child's teacher. We care about our students and worry about them when they aren't in class or online on days they are supposed to be.
