Reha's Report

Dear Scott School Families,

NWEA testing started this week. Students tackled the reading assessment, and next week they will take the math assessment. NWEA, like Acadience, isn't a test that students can study for. It is a benchmark measure of a student's progress at a moment in time. Parents/Guardians can help support their child giving their best on this test with encouraging words and reminders to take their time and answer each question the best way they know how. NWEA reports will come home in mid to end of February.

Since we've returned from Holiday Break, we have had more students testing positive for COVID. Please, please, please keep your child home if they demonstrate any COVID related symptoms. If we all give our best effort to keep the virus out of school, our hope is students and staff will stay healthier which will allow us to remain in school for in person instruction. A tricky thing about COVID is many of the symptoms for the virus are similar to the common cold, the flu, and allergies. Families are encouraged to have their child tested if any symptoms are present to help mitigate the spread. We have discovered that many students with symptoms assumed to be a cold or allergies are indeed a result of COVID.

Our teachers and staff are working so incredibly had to balance in person instruction and learning slides/assignments for students in quarantine and isolation. In addition to the demands the virus has placed on everyone, including educators, the impact of staff shortages have created unique challenges for schools. We share your passion to teach and support our students, and we can't do it alone. If you are available to sub for teachers or support staff, please let me know. I would love to provide you with information for signing up to be a substitute and also add you to our sub list. Substitutes will be a key to keeping our school open for in person instruction. The saying that it takes a village, has taken on a whole new meaning these past couple of years. Thank you for considering ways that you can contribute so our schools can remain operational. Also, please reach out to our school if we can be off assistance to you and your family. Together we're better!

Warm regards,

Linda Reha

Name Sign Needed - Pick Up Loop

Please help our pick up loop run efficiently by putting a large, legible sign with your child's first and last name printed on it in your car window in some fashion that our staff can read it. This will allow vehicles to move quickly and safely through our loop. This will help everyone get in and out of the loop in a flash. Thank you!

Valentine's Party Planning

Families can expect to hear from their child's classroom teacher regarding the upcoming Valentine's celebration. Students will be able to exchange Valentine cards this year, but unfortunately, we're not in a position yet to have adult guests attend parties. Stay tuned for more details soon if you haven't received them yet.

Panther Pride Student Spotlight

Each week every classroom at Scott School has a Panther Pride drawing from all Panther Pride slips earned by students for demonstrating respectful, responsible, safe, and bucketfilling behavior. Lucky drawing winners are invited to a Panther Pride recess or luncheon at the end of each month with Mrs. Reha and Mrs. Schwarz.

Free Breakfast & Lunch Opportunity

DeWitt Public Schools is participating in the Seamless Summer Option as part of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs this year. This means that every child can access a free school lunch and/or breakfast each day. Read the attached document for more details, and please be sure to complete and submit the necessary paperwork for Free and Reduced Lunch because this information determines the amount of state and federal funding our school receives.

There will only be one lunch choice this year, and it will be a cold, boxed option. Stay tuned for an updated menu to be posted on the district website soon. At this time, students will not be able to purchase only milk. We are hoping to add this option at some point in the year.
