Dear Scott School Families,
In just five school days, our amazing second graders will rise up to become confident third graders, and our third graders will begin an exciting new chapter at Herbison Woods as fourth graders. They're ready. Even if our hearts wish we could slow down time and hold onto their younger years just a little longer, we must also celebrate how far they’ve come.
This year, your children have proven something powerful: they can do anything they set their minds to. Day after day, they showed up, gave their best, and amazed us—not just with their growth and learning, but with their resilience, creativity, and spirit. Sometimes they did what we expected; other times, they blew us away.
Your child is capable of greatness. Believe in their dreams. Support their passions. Love them fiercely—through triumphs and challenges alike. It's okay to say no. It's okay to let them stumble and help them rise again—stronger, wiser, and more determined. All while holding them to their best.
Who knows what lies ahead? Your child might one day discover the cure for a terminal illness. They might become an innovative tradesperson, a gifted artist, or a pioneer in technology who helps shape the future of artificial intelligence for good. No matter the path they choose, they already have the tools, the knowledge, and the drive to make a difference.
So cheer them on. Be their biggest fan. Support their interests, nurture their passions, and feed their curiosity. Inspire them to imagine boldly, explore bravely, and grow confidently. You do this by planting seeds of possibility—through your words, your encouragement, and your unwavering belief in their potential.
That’s my hope for every Scott School student—for their future, and for the future we all share.
There’s no better time than now to embrace the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. Thank you for your love, your partnership, and everything you've done to support your child and our school community throughout the 2025–26 school year. We couldn’t do it without you.
You are amazing. Your child is amazing. And this is your reminder.
Wishing you a joyful, restful, and inspiring summer.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Linda Reha
Principal, Scott School
Each week every classroom at Scott School has a Panther Pride drawing from all Panther Pride slips earned by students for demonstrating respectful, responsible, safe, and bucketfilling behavior. Lucky drawing winners are invited to a special Panther Pride event at the end of the month with Mrs. Reha and Mrs. Schwarz, which was Panther Pride Recess this month.
Theodore is in Ms. Karr's 2nd grade class. He was invited to our May Panther Pride Recess.
Isabelle is in Ms. Villarreal' 3rd grade class. She was invited to our May Panther Pride Recess.
Registration is now open for the 2025 Project Connect events that help families in need connect to resources and get kids ready for school. The only requirement to participate is that children need to attend a Clinton County school or reside in Clinton County. If you have any questions, please reach out to the planning team at clintonprojectconnect@gmail.com. Click here to register by July 20, 2025.
As the school year comes to a close, DeWitt District Library wants to let you know about the Summer Reading Challenge called, "Color Our World", and some of the other programming that the library is offering for children this summer. Watch this five minute video that introduces some programs they will be offering children to inspire them to keep reading throughout the summer and encourage them to participate in some fun creative activities at the library.
We are excited for Field Day on Tuesday, June 3rd. Third graders will participate in this special, annual event from 8:45-10:45 a.m., and second graders will participate from 1-3 p.m. Families who wish to visit and watch Field Day events will need to follow the protocols below:
Families must sign in all family members in the vestibule to the office.
Families must all wear a visitor badge sticker.
Families must supervise their own non-school age children and have them stay with them the entire time. Field Day and our playground is for our Scott School students only during school hours. Also, our bathrooms are for staff and students only, so please plan for this.
Families interested in coming to Field Day should remain outside (after signing in) and be here during scheduled Field Day hours only. Please avoid coming early or staying after the event. This helps us better monitor our grounds and facilities for school safety.
Field Day volunteers are to report directly to the tent on the playground. Volunteers will sign in there, receive a visitor badge sticker, and instructions for their station.
Lastly, remember that Friday June 6th is our last day of school, and it is a half day. Scott School will dismiss at 11:42 a.m. Thank you for all of your support this school year. Have a wonderful summer!
The longer days and sunshine has been a wonderful seasonal shift that's allowing our students to spend more time outside. To avoid sunburn, please be sure to apply sunscreen to your child for special events such as Field Day on June 3rd and other outside trips your child's class is going on before the end of the school year. Also, consider sending sunscreen in with your child to independently reapply if you think it's necessary. There's nothing worse than an outside experience turning into a painful one due to sunburn.
DeWitt Public School is down bus drivers, so it's looking like our Transportation Department is planning on one bus route for the remainder of the year (the plan is for the bus to rotate weekly). This means our student pick up numbers are significantly larger at the end of the day. Please help us keep our car loop moving efficiently by placing a legible sign with your child's printed first and last name in the window of your vehicle, and please provide a sign for your trusted driver if you are not the one to pick up your child after school. We really need your help with this, so thanks in advance!
There will be tables in our vestibule set up with lost and found items as well as items that teachers are purging. Stop by to identify and claim missing items that your child lost throughout the year and feel free to adopt any items on our 'free' table (new items are added often).
Be sure to save or print our 2025-26 DPS Calendar for your planning purposes. Although we aren't quite done with this school year, we understand how busy our families are and appreciate when appointments are scheduled on days that we're not in school to help with student attendance, learning, and fun events!
Thank you for helping reduce respiratory infection spread at school by following simple CDC guidelines.
Below are the dates for Collaborative Learning Time (CLT) and professional development this year. Thank you in advance for supporting these days which allow our teachers to participate in training and be continuous lifelong learners to support student success.

Student safety is a priority. Please bring proper identification each time your child is picked up from school. Here are some ways adults picking up students can be identified:
Physical ID (ie. driver's license)
Personal ID by office staff
Other identification proof such as utility bills or other statements, credit card, etc., AND answer personal information that we have in Infinite Campus (ie. phone number, child's birthdate, etc.)
There are some Scott students who have health-threatening nut allergies in our building. Scott School is a 'No Nut' building. Pack items that do not contain nuts for your child's lunch and snack. It is critically important that we provide a safe learning environment for all students, and your help with this is needed and appreciated. Please always contact your child's teacher if you have a concern about an allergy or other health condition related to your child that they should be aware of. Also, if your child has a medical need, including food or other allergies, don't forget to update your child's Medical Management Plan by completing and submitting the district forms to the office before school starts so we can follow protocols to keep your child safe.
School breakfast and lunch are available and free to all students. Additional information will be provided to families soon about how to sign up for this opportunity with additional information about our food service program. Menus can be found here and will be updated soon.
In order for Scott School personnel to administer medication to your child when we return to in person instruction, you must:
Submit a completed district medication form to our office.
Be sure all medications are brought to and stored in our office.
Be sure prescription medication is in its original container accompanied with a physician’s signature.
Be sure non-prescription medication is in its original container accompanied by a parent’s signature.
Please communicate with your child's teacher if he/she takes medication daily at school.
If your child has a medical condition, please be sure to complete a Medical Management Plan for your child and turn it in at the office.
Medication and other medical forms can be found on our DeWitt Public Schools website.
Our school social worker, Mrs. Schwarz, is always willing to assist students and families in any way possible. In addition to working closely with your child's teacher, consider reaching out to her if you have questions or need support. She is truly amazing at what she does! She can be reached at 517-668-3446 or schwarzdea@dewittschools.net.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please see the information below regarding information on programs available to you and your student(s).
The Weekend Kit Program will, again, be provided at Scott School this year. This program is supplemental to the free breakfast and lunch programs offered at school every day and is intended to meet the nutritional needs of children during non-school hours, specifically over weekends or longer breaks. Weekend Kits are designed to slip discreetly into your child’s backpack and are available at no cost to your family. There are no eligibility requirements to participate in this program. Each Weekend Kit includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items and contains enough food to last each child two weekends. Foods included are kid-friendly items that are easy for your child to prepare or help prepare. Food kits will be sent home from school with your student, typically on Fridays. Upon enrollment in this program you will begin receiving a food pack every 1-2 weeks.
The Old Newsboys Association helps our community by providing children with either shoes or boots. If your child needs new shoes or boots and the purchase of them would be a financial burden, please contact me so that I may get you the necessary forms. It is not necessary to include your income information if your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch. We will forward your form to the Old Newsboys Association and they will send you a voucher for either shoes or boots. You may include all school age children on one family request form, even if they attend different buildings. Please do not send in duplicate requests if you included your child on another form.
To enroll in either of these programs, please call or email me at 517-668-3446 or schwarzdea@dewittschools.net, and be sure to please reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
DeAnn Schwarz
Scott School Social Worker
